FINDERS KEEPERS, LOSERS WEEPERS
While walking my imaginary dog
searching for found objects with charm
for my wife’s art projects,
I spied a 10 and then a 20-dollar bill
in the grass on the side of the road.
After a momentary flicker of joy,
I immediately felt sad for the person
who must be mad at themselves
for being careless with their cash.
I remembered finding 10 dollars
in the street while riding my bike
In the 1930’s.
I was thrilled down to my bones
until my ten dollars was allocated
to buy a brand-new Roger Peet suit
for my upcoming Bar Mitzvah.
